Why hire a consultant?
Consultants are professionals who provide specialized expertise, guidance, and support to non-profit organizations. They offer a range of services aimed at helping non-profits achieve their missions and improve their operations. Consultants bring external expertise, objective perspectives, and specialized knowledge to support organizations in achieving their goals and enhancing their impact. Their services are tailored to the unique needs and challenges of each organization, helping them operate more efficiently, strategically, and sustainably. Below are some examples of past research, consulting, and development projects.
RESEARCH
The Manitoba HIV/STBBI Collective Impact Network
The MB HIV/STBBI Collective Impact Network (a program of Nine Circles Community Health Centre) engaged my research services in 2022 to pull lead and coordinate a suite of research projects including small, qualitative studies and larger scale clinical trials. Within a short amount of time, I was able to organize and launch existing and new research studies that linked the community with larger research institutions sponsoring various projects. The key success in this work was getting to know the culture of the organization and negotiating it with deadlines and systems built in larger, out-of-province centres.
STRATEGIC CONSULTING
The Manitoba Association of Community Health
The Manitoba Association of Community Health (MACH) is a network of 12 community health agencies in Manitoba that serve a variety of populations and locations. They focus on supporting marginalized communities that face barriers to accessing health care and social services. Led primarily by members of each organization, I was engaged on a short-term contract to support the administrative functions of the association, including program development, policy work, fund development, and governance support. MACH experienced a range of successes from this, including the development of membership materials, the establishment of social media profiles, and the procurement of additional supportive funds.
PROGRAM EVALUATION
Community-Based Research Centre
The Community-Based Research Centre in Vancouver operates nationally as a think-tank focused on 2STLGBQ+ health issues. For a period of four years, I engaged in formative research activities in Manitoba that would later form the basis for the development of a number of community-focused initiatives, including Man on Manitoba, a systems navigation hub designed by, and for, queer men. The key success of this project was introducing an idea and supporting a community to lead the development of solutions for problems that mattered to them. Today, Man on Manitoba continues to be led by the community and serves a range of queer men’s health and social needs.
